RE: Travel and roads

What highway are you coming south from Brookings on? I've not driven 20, but the folks I work with have and they won't do it again.
If possible, I'd continue south to I-80 then go east.

Woven mat to place under mattress

Last winter I saw an advertisement for a woven mat that goes under the mattress. This mat allows air to flow under the mattress and help keep the area dry. Last winter I didn't need one. Now I do. Of course I can't find one. Turns out these are frequently used on boats where high humidity is a reality as well.
Do any of you know where to buy one of these mats?
Thank you for any help.

Pick up a copy of The Milepost. Should give you plenty to see.

RE: Abducted Boy in MH

This type of post is certainly commendable, but it would help if the poster included city and state in the information. There are often cities and counties in the United States that are used in multiple locations. MHO

Happy Independence Day to everyone!
We're working at a small campground on the Mendocino coast in California. We're full of people having a good time and celebrating freedom here in the redwoods.

RE: Easy Way to Improve Mileage

We just drove a bit over 2700 miles from Florida to California. Our MH has the Cummins 400 HP engine. We kept the cruise control set about 60 mph for the most part. The computer says our average mpg is 7.1, the instant mpg on level ground was between 8 and 10 mpg.
More interesting is the fact that all the way across country on interstate highways traffic of all kinds passed us like we were standing still. Evidently the price of fuel has not gotten to the point where people are willing to slow down and save money.
My two cents worth.

RE: Incredibly Bad Service- How to Proceed?

You can also copy your letters to the Florida PUC office responsible for telephone and wireless service. And be sure to let ATT know you are doing so.

RE: califoria hy 1 and 101

Both highways will permit travel with a class A and tow vehicle. Problems on US 101 will be from transiting urban areas mostly. CA highway 1 presents some challenges due to narrow, winding, hilly roadbeds in some regions of the state. Most of these areas can be passed through with time and patience though. (Unless of course a mud slide or burn closes the road.) Check local conditions for where you actually want to go before starting down the road, and have a good time.

RE: truck convoy protest

Let's see if I understand this.
The Congress and other groups prevent the oil companies from exploring for oil, drilling for oil, and building new refineries. The same Congress and other groups block efforts to build nuclear power plants and implement alternative sources of power for our country.
Then the Congress has the audacity of grill oil-company executives on why the price of gas is so high! Maybe someone should ask Congress what they're doing to SOLVE the problem instead of making it worse.

RE: Replace Window

I had to replace a side window on my Mandalay. After careful consideration, I contacted a glass-replacement company from the yellow pages. Two nice guys came out and did it. First time for them, they did a great job. No leaks. Took the old window away too.

RE: Are you better off?

Sure am! Free to eat, sleep, go to church, vote, play golf, do pretty much as I please. There are brave young men and women willing to die so we can all have our freedom. We owe them a vote of thanks, don't you think?

RE: Social Security Early----Or Not

Jim,
I took mine early (age 62) in 2006, and my wife took her's, early, last year as well. No, I would not do it different. One factor to consider is -- when the government owes you money, take it as soon as you can, remember, "they" can change the rules anytime they please.
I gather you are retired from the USMC, thank you for your service. So for instance it is only a question of time until some genius thinks they should offset social security with retired military pay. Or some such nonsense.

RE: Sat TV fade/Dawn

If the problem is moisture in the air (lots of rain) time is the only cure I'm aware of. However, if the problem is moisture on your dome, you might try washing it, applying Formula 303, then polishing it. You can clean with rubbing alcohol if you wish. 303 was what was recommended to us by the dome manufacturer.

I've seen battery disconnect switches advertised. I'll do the fuse-pulling thing and look into the switch.

RE: 2008 Saturn VUE Question

What a relief! Thanks for the input. Will find and pull the fuse in the future.
Joy -- Do you have a link to the cutoff switch that you had installed? Would a battery disconnect switch do the same thing? Or is that over kill?

2008 Saturn VUE Question

We're towing a new Saturn VUE. Tows well. But -- the last two times we've towed it, the battery was dead at the end of the day. We vary carefully followed the directions in the owner's manual -- neutral, brake off, key in ACC, and all accessories turned off.
Yes, we did manage to tow it one time and not have a dead battery.
I even went so far as to turn the A/C control to the "off" position. That is one click clockwise from the "Auto" condition. It looks like the letter "O" on the panel.
Any suggestions on what may be our problem?
And, thank you for any help you may give.

RE: How much fun would it be?

In addition to what the other folks have said, I'd suggest you work at least a couple of seasons in a CG. At least one in maintenance and another in the office. Will give you an idea of what you are dealing with on a people-to-people to level. On both ends -- your suppliers and your customers -- you will encounter quite a bit of differences. Dealing with happy people can be easy. Dealing with vendors that won't respond and campers that are unreasonable can be a real challenge and take the joy out of your day. Might say that could make your dream a nightmare!
